Listen to Your Mother Plumas County

At the Towne Hall Theatre in Quincy, CA on Wednesday, May 15th  Plumas County will be host to a nation wide Mother’s Day show, Listen to Your Mother, where 12 people will take the stage to voice their stories of the motherhood experience in contemporary times. There will be mothers, daughters and sons all sharing their stories of their experience of mothers raising children in today’s America.

Tell us your story of motherhood: be it funny or heartbreaking, share it with us. Make us laugh, cry, and appreciate what it takes to mother in today’s world.

Listen to Your Mother is a nation wide Mother’s Day show which began as the brainchild of Ann Imig in Madison, Wisconsin in 2010. Since then the show has grown nation wide to 23 regions and cities. Last year the show reached northern California with a memorable original spoken word performance by 11 women and one man @ San Francisco’s Cowell Theater on May 10th. Margaret Elysia Garcia, of Greenville, was part of that San Francisco performance. From that show two more have sprung. This year in addition to San Francisco, original spoken word performances will take place in Sacramento and Plumas County as well. Plumas County was chosen in November 2012 to be a location for the show this May 2013.

Submissions of essays, spoken word performances pieces in written or video format are being accepted from now until February 7th.  At that time, the directors will chose pieces for an open audition (which will be held on Saturday, February 23rd in Greenville). Rehearsals will take place, one a month in March, April, and May. Pieces should be roughly 750-800 words or no longer than five minutes when read out loud.
