This week our son turns ten
everything is breaking records
our hearts in the guinness books
yours, mine and we make it look
easy
easy they say
like we planned all this
like we knew what we were doing
like we’d read it all in the books
instead of in the stars
the stars
star crossed and star gazed
and it’s been ten years
since we formed this alliance
our witness now stares up at us
thinks us weird, foreign, old
can’t grasp how his parents
became one united force
in what he thinks must be
against him
but for me we are easy to imagine
there is no ‘work’ involved,
no buzz words or buzz kill
it is simply that i still hang on your words
and forgive me mine
