The Big Announcement–Girl Body Pride

As of this coming Monday morning,  Girl Body Pride has a new managing editor—-me. Since I first came to this site earlier this year I was immediately taken in. GBP often said everything I wanted to say about raising girls in this culture. Finding the site coincided too with my daughter beginning to have body awareness. She had a growth spurt which gave her six more inches in length. Her spindly legs turned muscular and solid. But to her? Eight year old in American culture? She thought she looked fat.

WHen a girl child is raised by a feminist mother in a tiny private school without a TV and still comes out with body hatred you know just how prevalent it all is.

I love what Pauline Campos has been doing with the site. And now she’s at Latina!  So I’m lending a hand over at GBP. Come give us a look next week. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
